A skip hire boss from Barrow in Furness faces charges purjury after allegedly lying to a magistrates’ court about being on his mobile phone while driving. John Cooper, who’s company provides skip hire in Preston and Barrow, refutes all accusations saying that the cab had been fitted with a working hands-free system at the time of the original offence.
Mr Cooper was initially issued with a fixed penalty notice for the offence, but contested the notice and the court hearing at Furness Magistrates’ Court went ahead last year. In the court hearing at Preston Crown Court on Monday, barrister Mr Jeffrey Samuels QC asked the accused: “Did you deliberately perjure yourself to try to get off that charge?”
Cooper replied “No”.
The drama continues.
