Dredging work at a waste treatment plant has been put on a permanent stop by Darlington Borough Council after complaints of excessive noise. The decision to ban the work is the result of a lengthy legal battle following complaints by neighbors about around the clock digging work and site noise.
Darlington Borough Councillor Gill Cartwright said: “We have been working very closely with the council’s legal and planning department for more than 18 months following complaints”.
As a result of the permanent stop order, the skip hire company that conducts the work has been banned from using the waste transfer station. This will no doubt have knock on effects for the local environment and Mr Shepherd of Albert Hill Skip Hire denys any unsocial working hours, saying:
“If we wanted to, we could work 24 hours a day, but our hours of work are 7am to 7pm.”
