The construction of a waste incinerator on the edge of Peterhead has been axed after more than 6,000 people have objected to the proposal that would see around 80 lorries entering and leaving, 12 hours a day, four days a week.

A&M Smith Skip Hire had been planning to create the plant that would deal with around 30,000 tonnes of domestic waste each year. Although A&M received the backing of local councillors, there was much unrest in the community and the skip hire company has decided to build a recycling centre on the same site instead. When opened, the recycling centre will create several jobs and help with local waste management and sustainability.
