Skip diving, skip dipping, scrounging, recycling – call it what you will, taking unwanted items out of skips and reusing them is becoming more and more common. Whether it’s the recession or just a general acceptance from society, people across the UK are having a good root through their nearest skips and in one case, it’s helped a boy realise his dream.

16-year-old Zach Jones from Ystrad Mynach races his kart every weekend but it’s no ordinary Kart. Zach’s flying machine was built with the help of his dad from second hand parts sourced from other teams, friends and even the contents of skips. Dad, David, a skip hire driver said: “The kart is made up of bits and pieces we have had to beg, borrow and steal.” But judging by Zach’s recent results which include a 4th, 3rd and 1st place finish, it looks like recycling in motion is really paying off for the father/son team.
