A company that provides skip hire in Wigan has been fined £12,000 for operating a waste handling plant without the correct environmental permit. It’s not the first skip hire company to be caught operating illegally and unfortunately, it won’t be the last but it just goes to show that you can never be too careful when letting someone handle your waste.
Ainscough Skip Hire Ltd and its directors accepted the charges, which were backed by evidence from Environment Agency officers who revealed skip waste had been illegally deposited, sorted and stored on a number of occasions. Locals had also raised the alarm after seeing black smoke coming from the site as rubbish was being burned.
